2015 Russian Figure Skating Championships

Russian Nationals were held in Sochi, Russia, December 24-28. Olympians Adelina Sotnikova (gold singles), Tatiana Volosozhar+Maxim Trankov (gold pairs/team) and Ekaterina Bobrova+Dmitri Soloviev (gold team) did not participate.


Maxim Kovtun defeated former Russian Champion, Sergei Veronov, by one point to defend his National title. Adian Pitkeev claimed the bronze medal after a sloppy skate by thirty one year old Konstantin Menshov who fell from 2nd after the short to 5th in the free.

Elena Radionova hit seven clean triples and claimed her first National title. Elizaveta Tuktamysheva missed a golden opportunity to overtake her rival when she doubled her triple-triple combination. Evgenia Medvedeva, the Junior GPF gold medalist placed third. Julia Lipnitskaia, reigning World silver medalist continued her troublesom season with a 9th place finish after multiple errors.

Stolbova+Klimov showed their human side with several uncharacteristic errors in the free, but used their short program score to pull out a golden victory.

Tarasova+Morozov won the free skate in their first trip to senior nationals and landed the silver medal. Kavaguti+Smirnov claimed bronze after a year’s absence due to injury.

The face of Russian Ice Dancing changed with several post Olympic partner swaps. Ilinykh+Zhiganshin only became partners eight months ago, but held off former Junior World champions, Monko+Khaliavin and Stepanova+Bukin to claim gold. Only one point separated silver from bronze. The new team of Sinitsina+Katasalapov finished in fourth place.

Skate Today was created in November 2004 to showcase the people of the skating world, skaters and coaches and others, who make figure skating and ice dancing a pleasure to watch for fans from around the world.
