For the second straight week, Russia took home gold in Ladies and Ice Dance at an ISU JGP event.  Boyang Jin (CHN) prevented a Russian sweep by vaulting over short program winner, Alexander Petrov (RUS), with a jam packed technical program, including three quads.

Boyang Jin (CHN) revved up his engine and jumped into first place with the powerful music to Dragon Racing. The 2013 JGP Final winner opened with two quads and a 3Lz+3T combination. Jin executed a 4T and five clean triples after midway in the program and earned over half his 83.28 elements’ mark. The reigning Chinese champion’s 220.17 total score was a personal best.

Alexander Petrov (RUS) outscored Jin in his free skate PCS, but failed to topple the zzzzooming jumper.  He received negative GEO’s for his opening two combinations. The reining Russian Junior silver medalist received level 4 for his three spins, but only Level 2 for the step sequence. Petrov’s short and free program marks and total score of 185.84 were all personal bests.

The 2013 JGP Final silver medalist added a 3F, 3Lz, 3Lo, 2A, and two more combinations including a 3S+3T+2T.  Her three Level 4 spins added to the 20-point lead over her closest competitor.  Sakhanovich scored her personal best in both programs and the Total score (191.96).

Yuka Nagai (JPN) opened her free performance with two combinations3Lz+3T and 3Lz+2, and then faltered on her 3F. The fifteen-year-old landed a 2A+3T+2T combination after the mid-section for 10.07 GOE points.  Nagai’s 164.42 total score won her the silver medal-her first in a JGP event.
