RUSSIANS GRAB FOUR MEDALS AT COURCHEVEL JUNIOR GRAND PRIX

EVGENIA MEDVEDEVA (RUS) WINS LADIES EVENT IN A LANDSLIDE

Evgenia Medvedeva (RUS) led the Ladies after the short.  The free program skated to “Ein Sommernachtstraum” and “Tango Tchack” elevated her score 20 points above her closest competitor and delivered the gold medal (179.55 total). The 2014 World Junior bronze medalist executed 2 triple-triple combinations and four more clean triples.  Each jump was highlighted with a ‘tano – hand over her head – move. Rin Nataya (JPN) won the silver medal in her JGP debut with a free skate to Romeo and Juliet.  The2014 Asian Open bronze medalistdid four triples, which included a 3S, and two combinations of a 3T+3T and 2A+1Lo+3S. (158.76 total)  Amber Glenn (USA) fell on her 3Lo and was unsuccessful in her triple-triple attempt.  The reining US Junior gold medalist did a 3F+2T+2T in her performance to “El Conquistador” and “Aranjuez” (148.08 total) and snagged the bronze medal away from Miyu Nakashio (JPN) by .30 points. (147.78 total)

 

JUNE HYOUNG LEE (KOR) CAPTURES GOLD

June Hyoung Lee (KOR) skated his gold medal free program to Phantom of the Opera and landed eight triples, four of which were in combinations: 3F+3T, 2A+3T, and 3Lz+2T+2T. The 2011 Milan, ITA JGP bronze medalist scored 67.88 (s), 135.93 (f) and 203.81 (total). All three scores were his personal best.  Soto Yamamoto (JPN) opened his “Lorelei” free program with a fall on the 3A, but then scored 11.40 with his 3Lz+3T combination.  He was the only man to receive Level4 for all his spins and steps. (195.80 total)  Alexander Samarin (RUS) completed the only clean 3A of the day while skating to a Beatles medley.  He placed fourth behind Deniss Vasiljevs (LAT) in the free program, but won the bronze medal. (179.16 total) U.S. novice champion, Paolo Borromeo, was 11th after the short program, but placed 6th in the free and moved to 7th final. (158.90 total)

 

RUSSIANS OVERTAKE CANADIANS TO WIN ICE DANCE GOLD MEDAL

Alla Loboda & Pavel Drozd (RUS) danced into first place with the ballet music from Giselle. The 2013 two-time JGP bronze medalist’s superior diagonal step sequence and combination spin scores vaulted them from 2nd place in the Short Dance. (132.44 total) Madeline Edwards & Zhao Kai Pang (CAN) slipped to second and the silver medal.  The reining Junior World bronze medalists had a higher PCS, but their element marks were 5.82 points behind the winners. (129.62 total)  Anastasia Shpilevaya & Grigory Smirnov placed 4th in the free program over 4 points behind Alexandra Nazarova & Maxim Nikitin (UKR), but won the bronze by a slim 0.54 points. (121.42 total) Chloe Lewis & Logan Bye (USA) placed 5th (112.06), Melinda Meng & Andrew Meng (Canada) 7th (106.74 total) and Emily Day & Kevin Leahy (USA) 8th (106.49 total)
