INTRODUCING 17 MEMBER CANADIAN OLYMPIC FIGURE SKATING TEAM

Canada has qualified the largest figure skating team of any nation for next month’s Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia.

As stated by the President of Skate Canada, Leanna Caron, members of the Canadian Olympic figure skating team describe themselves as “proud”, “stoked”, “unstoppable”, “inspired” and “fierce”.

MEN

Patrick Chan

He’s the 7-time Senior Men’s Canadian Skating Champion (2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014) and 3-time World Champion (2011, 2012 and 2013).

Kevin Reynolds

He’s the 4-time Senior Men’s Canadian Medalist (2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014) and the 2013 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Men’s Champion.

Liam Firus

He won the bronze medal at the 2014 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships.

 

WOMEN

Katelyn Osmond

She is the 2-time Senior Women’s Canadian Skating Champion (2013 and 2014). She won the gold medal at the 2012 Nebelhorn Trophy and at the 2012 Skate Canada International. In her first ISU World Figure Skating Championships in 2013, she finished in eighth spot.

Gabrielle Daleman

She is the two-time Senior Women’s Canadian silver medalist (2013 and 2014). She won the bronze medal at the 2013 ISU Junior Grand Prix (Gdansk).

 

PAIR

Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford

They are the 3-time Senior Pair Canadian Skating Champions (2012, 2013 and 2014). They won the bronze medal at the 2013 ISU World Figure Skating Championships. They are also the 2013 ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Pair Champions.

Kirsten Moore-Towers and Dylan Moscovitch

They are the 2011 Senior Pair Canadian Skating Champions. They won the silver medal at the 2013 and 2014 Canadian Skating Championships. They won the 2012 and 2013 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic.

Paige Lawrence and Rudi Swiegers

They are the 4-time National Senior Pair Bronze Medalists (2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014). They finished second at the 2012 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic.

 

DANCE

Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir

They are the 6-time Senior Dance Canadian Champions (2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014). They are the reigning Olympic Ice Dance Champions.

Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje

They have medalled 7 times at the Canadian National Skating Championships. In 2012, they earned the bronze medal at the ISU Four Continents Championships.

 Alexandra Paul and Mitchell Islam

They won the bronze medal at the 2011 and 2014 Canadian Skating Championships. They earned the bronze medal at the 2013 Nebelhorn Trophy and the silver medal at the 2012 U.S. International Figure Skating Classic.

While the Canadian Figure Skating Olympic team is a contender for the gold medal for the team event, they also wish to add to the 22 Olympic figure skating medals that Canada has earned at previous Olympic Games. Will they achieve this goal? Who is their competition? Next week we’ll meet some of the medal contenders.
