Trophée Eric Bompard: WITH A FLAWLESS PROGRAM, ASHLEY WAGNER WINS THE SHORT

TEB-LSP-Article2013Wagner gained 66.75 points, landing a 3 Flip-3 Toeloop (underrotated) combination, 3 Loop and 2 Axel. “Today it was a very good skate. I am happy, I feel that my spin levels have improved. Overall I am very happy with what I did, I went for everything. I feel I am working my way up. When I approached Arutunian, I said I wanted to have a triple-triple combo: he entirely changed my technique in order to achieve that. I gradually started doing 3 Flip-2 Toeloop and later 3 Flip-3 Toeloop.”

Pogorilaya, who won Cup Of China, earned 60.03 points. She completed a 3 Lutz-3 Toeloop combination, a 3 Loop but only did a Waltz jump instead of a 2 Axel. “I am very happy with the beginning of my program, as I did my triple-triple combination and the flying spin. I didn’t want to pop the Axel because I have already popped it in previous competitions, so perhaps I was focusing too much on it. I went for it and I just popped it, there was not much I could do to save it.  I am very happy that after Cup of China some of the focus shifted on me. Before I was a little sad because no one was paying attention to me, now it’s different so I am happy.”

Sotnikova is only 0.02 points below her, with 60.01. She had poor landings on both her 3 Lutz-3 Loop combination and 2 Axel (she singled it). “I am very pleased with my perfomance. I don’t know what happened in my Axel. It just went this way, maybe something was wrong in my head while I was performing it. I was probably messing up with my mind.”

About Us

Skate Today was created in November 2004 to showcase the people of the skating world, skaters and coaches and others, who make figure skating and ice dancing a pleasure to watch for fans from around the world. The goal was to create a site that would give viewers an insight into the personalities of the people involved in this sport and to give you a more personal connection when watching them live at an event or on the television. Our staff knows how much time and dedication is put into this sport and that's why Skate Today was created.
