Skate Today

RIP Barry Mittan

Dear friends, it is with great sadness that I write this post. Barry Mittan died today after a serious auto accident yesterday that left him with a catastrophic brain injury. He was declared brain dead and removed from life support. He died peacefully surrounded by family and friends.

Barry helped launch SkateToday.com in November 2004. He was an incredible mentor to me and got me involved in the world of figure skating photography. When Barry fell ill in 2009, he made arrangements for me to take his spot as a photographer at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in my hometown of Vancouver. He made my dream come true.  He was one of the most gracious and generous people in the skating world. We will miss you very much.

I cannot thank him enough for everything that he did for SkateToday and for me. I extend a huge thank-you to his wife Jayne for allowing Barry the opportunity to travel the world taking photos and all the time he took to write articles for our site. He will be deeply missed.

Rest in peace Mr. Mittan.

About Us

Skate Today was created in November 2004 to showcase the people of the skating world, skaters and coaches and others, who make figure skating and ice dancing a pleasure to watch for fans from around the world. The goal was to create a site that would give viewers an insight into the personalities of the people involved in this sport and to give you a more personal connection when watching them live at an event or on the television. Our staff knows how much time and dedication is put into this sport and that's why Skate Today was created.
